Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date Delayed to December 10
Cyberpunk 2077, arguably the most highly anticipated video game of 2020, has once again been delayed. The game, developed by CD Projekt Red, initially scheduled Cyberpunk 2077 to release earlier this year on April 16th, but was then delayed to September 17th, followed by November 19th. This latest announcement delays the open-world cyberpunk thriller a third time to December 10th.
CD Projekt Red released a statement on their official Twitter, abbreviated here -
“The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it (Xbox One/X, compatibility on Xbox Series S|X, PS4/Pro, compatibility on PS5, PC, Stadia)... while working from home. Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved to being almost a next-gen title, somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and everything runs smoothly…
Some of you might also be wondering what these words mean in light of us saying we achieved gold master some time ago. Passing certification, or ‘going gold’, means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it. But it doesn’t mean we stop working on it or raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed by a Day 0 patch. This is the time period we undercalculated.
We have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you’ll fall in love with.”
The tweet has been retweeted 30K times in less than 48 hours. Many gamers have responded to the tweet in anger.
“This is one of the most unprofessional situation I've ever witnessed. I'm not even mad for the delay itself but 20 days before the release Come on! Are you fucking toying with us? You just throw out of the window your reputation as a consumer friendly company.”
“Cancelling my pre order now. 4th time this game has been pushed back. All my hype as been killed by this. I'm done waiting. Might pick the game up when it's on sale for like $20 bucks. Not giving $60+ dollars to a company that does nothing but lie.”
“Fantastic news. I highly doubt my employer will accept me shifting my holidays YET AGAIN. You rock, guys”
Others are defending CD Projekt Red’s decision.
“The fact people don't understand, there's 9 versions of the game to be tested and quality checked and the world is still on fire with Covid.
Another 3 weeks isn't going to ruin your life.”
“People that are mad about this need to fuck off straight up. I’ve been super excited to play it since it was announced and pre ordered it once it was available
But to push it by 20 somethin days to make sure it’s optimized on ALL consoles and pc, is fine by me.”
