Resident Evil Village's "Tall Lady" Has Gone Viral

The internet has exploded with love for a newly revealed villain in the video game Resident Evil Village. Over the last 48 hours, Capcom has revealed the character’s real name to be Lady Alcina Dimitrescu, but the internet has already dubbed her the Tall Lady, the Big Lady, or the Tall Vampire Lady. And when the internet comes up with an alias, it tends to hold onto it, much like the famous fan creation from the Super Mario universe, Bowsette.

An online Resident Evil (or as it’s known in Japan, Biohazard) Showcase event took place on January 21, 2021, and gave us the first gameplay glimpses of Resident Evil Village, the eighth major installment in the long-running horror franchise. As stated in a press release published by Capcom, the new game “continues the story of Ethan Winters, first set in motion in Resident Evil 7 biohazard.” And like the previous entry in the series, gamers will play as Ethan in first person mode in order to really be immersed in the ghastly and terrifying world.

New creepy, sinister characters are expected to be found in a Resident Evil game, and Village is no exception. For example, teasers and trailers for the game have shown off women who look like malicious nuns that hunt Ethan with blades and can transform into swarms of insects. In fact, before official information confirmed that these were insects, fans deduced they were swarms of bats. With Lady Dimitrescu seen as some kind of master or mother of these women, the internet assumed she was a type of vampire. Her pale skin also seemed to hint that she was a vampiric creature. However, at the moment, the Tall Lady is still shrouded in mystery.

That air of mystery hasn’t slowed down the internet’s love affair with Lady Dimitrescu. She's become an internet sensation overnight, already inspiring plenty of meme posts and fan artwork, sometimes amusing and sometimes NSFW. One of the first posts to really boost the Tall Lady’s viral popularity was made by Twitter user @TheSphereHunter, who shared screenshots of the character that gained tens of thousands of likes. Her caption reads, “GUYS, THE VAMPIRE LADY IS ACTUALLY EXTREMELY TALL!!!” Others on Twitter are jokingly asking the Tall Lady to step on them in a sadomasochistic manner.

As far as gameplay goes, some fans of the series have noticed her size is similar to that of another popular RE villain, Mr. X. Mr. X was an unstoppable monster that stalked gamers in the Resident Evil 2 remake who was able to surprise the player’s avatar when least expected, sometimes even bursting through walls! We can only hope Lady Dimitrescu is just as horrifyingly surprising. We’ll know for sure when the game releases on Playstation 5 and all other major platforms on May 7, 2021. For now, Playstation owners can get a taste of Resident Evil Village with the new free game demo titled Maiden, currently available on the Playstation Store.
