Megumin's Explosion and Emilia's Glaciation Among Our Top 5 Death Blows in Isekai Anime

A “death blow” is a common otaku phrase which can be defined as a fictional character’s devastating attack or OP technique. Seeing a death blow happen is sometimes the most exciting and memorable part of an anime series! That’s why Tokyo Anime News is giving you a run-down of five of the greatest death blows in isekai anime history. This list is a matter of opinion from one anonymous writer. It’s not an objective, scientific comparison between powers and techniques - just a list of personal favorites! So let’s dive right in and see what death blows made the list!

Just FYI, Glaciation isn’t confirmed as the official title of Emilia’s attack, but it’s a fitting name as her alias is the Witch of Glaciation. Emilia uses Glaciation against the Witch’s Cult, freezing an entire forest in an instant. A few OP enemies escape the death blow, but it still proves so effective that it stops the Witch’s Cult and the Black Serpent. It also completely freezes all the innocent people in the area for years, and even Emilia herself!

Milim fires off her Drago Buster against the giant calamity-class monster Charybdis. Just to give you an idea how powerful Charybdis is, all of Tempest’s forces AND  extra forces from Dwargon fought together to take it down and were unsuccessful after a lengthy volley of attacks. One blast of Milim’s Drago Buster technique slew the beast and freed its host!

The Elenium Type 95 attack can only be successfully executed by Tanya. It combines a mage’s mana with a scientifically created computation orb. Basically, firing one bullet with Elenium Type 95 creates a devastating explosion that can obliterate a whole company of soldiers! When Tanya powers up and pulls this off the first time in the anime it’s an absolutely brilliant display.

This attack may be the most well-known death blow in all of isekai history (and the most chuunibyou). When Megumin executes it, miles of land are eradicated. It’s so powerful that she always ends up completely drained of her energy!

In the third season of the anime, Ainz stares down 70,000 charging human soldiers without even an ounce of fear. That’s because he unleashes what some call his greatest spell, Iä Shub-Niggurath, which is crazy for a being that has hundreds of spells at his disposal! When Ainz used it, all the soldiers died and collapsed instantly, no matter how strong they were. And their sacrifice gave birth to the Dark Young, which overwhelmed the remaining enemy soldiers with fear and insanity!
