That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken, or TenSura for short) will soon begin airing its second season! The first season of this isekai aired in Fall 2018 and was a big hit both in Japan and overseas. Plenty happened in that first season, so this article acts as both a refresher and a preview of what to expect in Season 2!

In the first season, average salaryman Satoru Mikami is living in modern day Japan when he’s suddenly stabbed. As he takes his last breaths, he thinks about his regrets and what he wished he could have if he had another chance at life. A new mysterious skill called Great Sage (think of an advanced computer program inside Satoru’s head) hears these thoughts, granting Satoru incredible new video game-like abilities for his next life. Satoru then dies and is reincarnated as a slime in a parallel fantasy world!

Satoru soon meets Veldora, the Storm Dragon, one of the most powerful beings in the world. Veldora was imprisoned by a Hero 300 years ago and stuck in a cave of the Jura Forest ever since. Satoru and Veldora become friends and name their bond “Tempest.” From then on, Satoru becomes Rimuru Tempest. Rimuru absorbs Veldora and his imprisoning cell entirely with his powerful ability Predator, as a way to analyze the imprisonment and hopefully free Veldora one day. After having eaten plenty of magicule herbs and ore, along with Veldora’s aura, Rimuru becomes an extremely powerful being himself! His Predator Skill allows him to take the skills of monsters he defeats and even create new skills!

When Rimuru leaves the cave, he learns that swallowing up Veldora means that monsters will now come to Jura Forest no longer fearing the dragon’s protection. Consequently, a village of goblins asks for Rimuru to help them after being attacked by direwolves. Rimuru defeats the direwolves with ease, and the two races then live in harmony with Rimuru as the leader. He evolves all monsters under his leadership. To grow the village, Rimuru befriends other races, too! Four dwarves help build the village, then a number of ogres act as its defenders and generals.

In a war between orcs and lizardmen, Rimuru-sama is victorious as well, and these monster races likewise join his side. Now numbering over 100,000 residents, Rimuru has become Chancellor of a new nation - the Jura Tempest Federation, with the city named “Rimuru” as the capital!

The first season introduced tons of endearing characters - such as Shizue, the champion whose human form Rimuru mimics. Then there’s Milim Nava, the childish but super powerful Demon Lord that becomes besties with Rimuru. The second season promises even more new characters and surprises. For one, Hinata Sakaguchi, the former student of Shizue, will meet Rimuru-sama. The mysterious demon “Kuro” has yet to face Rimuru. And the Demon Lord Clayman, who pulled the strings in evil ways last season, will probably be up to no good again!
