The Winners for the 2021 Crunchyroll Anime Awards
Results for the 2021 Crunchyroll Anime Awards were announced on a live streaming broadcast on Friday, February 19, 2021. This is the fifth award event hosted by the well-known anime streaming company, which has taken place annually. It’s nice to take a moment and look back and remember all the great anime we’ve seen over a whole year. You can see a recording of the full broadcast embedded here.

Anime of the Year – JUJUTSU KAISEN

Best Score – Kevin Penkin, Tower Of God
Best Director – Masaaki Yuasa, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!
Best Character Design – Mayuka Ito, Original Designs By Aidairo, Toilet-bound Hanako-kun
Best Couple – Nasa Yuzaki & Tsukasa Yuzaki, TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You
Best VA Performance (JP) – Yusuke Kobayashi As Natsuki Subaru, Re:ZERO -Starting Life In Another World- (Season 2)
Best VA Performance (EN) – Zeno Robinson As Hawks, My Hero Academia Season 4
Best Opening Sequence (OP) – Wild Side (ALI), BEASTARS
Best Ending Sequence (ED) – LOST IN PARADISE (ALI feat. AKLO), JUJUTSU KAISEN
Nominees were selected by a panel of 50 judges put together by Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll’s site states that “Judges are industry experts, hand-selected based on their reputation, regard, and credibility. Our judges come from a range of different backgrounds, cultures, and careers, which we think best represents the diversity of anime fandom.”
After the nominees have been chosen, voting is opened up to the fans. This year, voting ran January 15–22, 2021. Over 15 million votes from around the world were tallied to come up with the results!
Writer’s opinion: I haven’t seen all of the anime nominated yet, but I’ve seen several of them. I’m a bit sad Dorohedoro didn’t win anything. But Jujutsu Kaisen is and has been amazing in every aspect, so I feel the fact that it received Anime of the Year is well deserved.
Jujutsu Kaisen also received Best ED with “Lost in Paradise” which I’m happy about, as the song is catchy AF.
Congrats also to Yusuke Kobayashi, who plays Natsuki Subaru in Re:Zero Season 2. Again, he’s shown incredibly emotion and intensity voicing that character.
