Warning: Spoilers ahead.
Zenitsu is frollicking alone with Nezuko in her human form. Inosuke is dreaming that he’s the boss of beast person versions of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Nezuko. They’re in a cave fighting a monster Mugen Train. Meanwhile, in Rengoku’s dream, he’s reliving the moment that he tells his father he’s become a Hashira. But Rengoku’s dad, a former Hashira himself, is depressed for some unknown reason, and does not take pride or happiness from the news. Still, this does not extinguish Rengoku’s passion, and he encourages his little brother Senjuro.
All of the four Demon Slayers are tied by rope to the kids. These kids want to return to their happy dreams, too. So they’ll do anything for Enmu. The rope is special and helps them invade the dreams of the one they’re tied to. From here, they can find the edge of the dream, and cut through its barrier. They cross it to enter the person’s subconscious, where a spiritual core exists. This is what the kids need to destroy, as ordered by Enmu.
One of the kids, a girl, makes her way into Rengoku’s subconscious. She almost destroys his spiritual core, but Rengoku’s survival instinct kicks in even when he’s asleep. And back in reality, he chokes the girl to stop her!
Rengoku is so awesome and powerful. I wonder if the other Hashira would be able to do the same?
As we saw in the last episode, Tanjiro is dreaming about being back with his family. They’re all alive as if they were never murdered.
In the water near his house, Tanjiro’s reflection pulls him in. The reflection screams at Tanjiro that this is a dream, an attack by the demons. And he needs to wake up!
Tanjiro realizes he has to get up, but it’s hard. At the same time, back in reality, Nezuko comes out of her box. She can see that her brother is suffering, stuck asleep. She bangs her head on his to try to wake him up. It doesn’t work, but her desire, her aura, gets through to Tanjiro. And it slowly wakes him from the dream!
Again, the power of these siblings’ love for one another proves incredible.
And what will power Tanjiro must have. To say goodbye to his family and this human Nezuko in his dream. He wishes he could return to his family. But he knows this dream version of them is not real, and he can never go back to that life.
So he has to wake up somehow. But how? He gets some guidance from a vision of his father. He has to cut something with his sword. His own neck! He does this, but the episode ends.
