This is the start of something a little different here at Tokyo Anime News! Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken aka TenSura) are two hugely popular anime airing right now, and we thought it would be fun to pit characters from both series against each other in a hypothetical fight! We wanted the opponents to be comparable in abilities, so for this first dream battle, we’ve selected Ranga Tempest vs. Garfiel Tinsel! Battle, begin! Warning: this article contains story spoilers for Re:Zero up to Episode 40 and TenSura up to Episode 25.
We’ll be judging the characters Ranga and Garfiel based on the height of their strength, at least the heights we’ve seen thus far in their respective anime. That means Ranga has evolved to a Tempest Star Wolf and Garfiel has transformed into a tiger beast. Garfiel’s tiger form is absolutely massive! He looks more than three times the height of Subaru, making him around 20 feet tall. With bulging muscles. Ranga’s no slouch, either! He can alter his size at will. We figure he can alter himself to be similar size to Garfiel!
In terms of strength, it seems both Ranga and Garfiel can rip human-sized creatures apart with their fangs and claws. In Episode 33 of Re:Zero, Garfiel brutally cuts Otto in half with one swipe of his claws and crushes Patrasche, a land dragon, with one pounce! We haven’t seen Ranga do anything as brutal, but even an unevolved wolf was able to kill a goblin at the beginning of TenSura. Meaning a Tempest Star Wolf could do much more damage!
When it comes to speed, Ranga’s got Garfiel beat for sure! Ranga has traversed great distances at incredible speed, shortening a trip that would take weeks of human walking to only three days. Ranga can also teleport with Spatial Magic and Shadow Step. Garfiel might be faster than a normal human, but that’s still nothing compared to Ranga’s teleportation and agility.
The last comparison is magic! Garfiel’s Earth Magic allows him to cave in large tracts of land in an instant! We saw this in Ep 33. It’s a terrifying ability that can clear out dozens of enemies if they’re all close together. Ranga, on the other hand, can unleash Death Storm! It’s a technique that affects a wide area of land, combining Black Lightning with whirlwinds. We see him use this in Ep 13. With it, he's able to take out hundreds of orcs at one time!
In the end, Ranga is victorious! Garfielf’s Earth Magic is tough, but Ranga’s agility and Spatial Magic make him a hard target to hit. Then Ranga just has to use a focused Death Storm on Garfiel, and the fight is over. KO!! Do you agree? Let us know in the comments!
