That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime - Episode 33 Review - Rimuru's People Get Ready to Fight Back
Warning: Spoilers up to the end of Episode 33 follow.
This episode picks up right where the previous episode left off. Rimuru has brought together a war table made up of Tempest’s leaders. There are some outside the barrier like Vesta and Souei listening with a communication device. Then there’s Gabiru’s cronies listening right outside the window. I thought it was funny how they peaked in, as they have this running gag of peeking behind things.
The ep starts with a re-telling of the Demon Lord girl story. The whole story was retold almost exactly as it was first conveyed to the audience in the previous ep. That was absolutely a time filler move right there, which I thought was pretty lame. I’ve seen several comments from the fans who were similarly disappointed by that. What’s worse, Rimuru still doesn’t acknowledge or realize that the girl from the story is Milim!
Anyways, the whole point of Rimuru telling the story was to explain to his people why he wants to become a Demon Lord. That it gives them a chance to resurrect Shion and everyone who died. Rimuru then apologizes for what happened to them, claiming full responsibility for the tragedy. He confesses that he was a human in his previous life, and therefore made the rule that no humans be harmed by Tempest’s monster citizens.
But Shuna and Benimaru tell Rimuru that it wasn’t his fault, that it was their fault for relying on his power too much all this time. Then one by one, each of his followers apologize and claim responsibility for what happened. Rimuru disagrees, saying again that he is to blame because of his selfish feelings. But Hakurou sums it up that everyone played a part in letting this happen. And Rigurd assures Rimuru that they will follow him no matter what, even if he becomes a Demon Lord.
With that settled, Rimuru announces a change in his rule. He understands now that humans can be influenced by evil in this world, making them a threat. He hopes Tempest can befriend humans in the future, but that will take time and work. They will have to build a world where humans can learn for themselves that the monsters of Tempest can be trusted.
For now, to negotiate peace with Tempest’s neighbors, Tempest will have to show a sign of strength just to get into the negotiation table. That means obliterating Falmuth’s forces that are marching their way to annihilate them!
The 20,000 men will arrive at Tempest in 3 days. Rimuru plans to consume them all himself to become a Demon Lord. Meanwhile, he’s delegated the members of his war table to simultaneously take out the soldiers and magic users at the four corners of Tempest who are maintaining the barrier that weakens the town’s inhabitants. The fighting begins in the next episode!
